What it is
Schedule 1 lists your VINs and their weight categories. When the IRS accepts your return they stamp one copy and return it to you. If you e-file, the "stamp" is an IRS watermark with the date, and it's equally valid.
Who asks for it
- Your state DMV or IRP office, before they'll issue or renew plates on a truck 55,000 lbs or more.
- DOT officers at roadside inspections and weigh stations.
- Your carrier, if you're leased on, and your leasing company.
Lost it?
If you e-filed with us, log in and download it again, any time. If you mailed your return, the IRS can reissue a stamped copy; it takes a while, which is one more reason to e-file.
Paper vs e-file
Paper: about six weeks for the stamped copy to come back by mail. E-file: usually under ten minutes. Same document, same legal weight.
